December 2004 was much as expected for a dry season month. 8 day with some limited rain mostly later in afternoon for just a few minutes. 11 December was the worst day, dull all day and rain most of the afternoon. All other days had lots of sunshine and warm 30 – 32 C temperatures. The sea was very calm during the whole month, with the exception of a few terrible minutes on the morning of 26 December 2004 when 4 Tsunami waves struck most of the beaches on Phuket killing many people and damaging much property.

November 2004 was much as expected for the start of the dry season. Surprising large number of rainy days. 16 days (throughout the month) with some sort of rain, but no really rainy days. Just shorter rain showers, mostly in the late afternoon or early evening.  Lots of sunshine just about every day, except for the cloudy period from 1 – 4 November 2004. The sea was very calm during the whole month.

October 2004 had exceptionally wet weather during the first half of the month, and surprisingly sunny and calm weather during the second half of the month. 13 days with some sort of rain. The worst days for rain for were 1, 7, 8, 9 and 12 October 2004. From 7 – 9 October was wall-to-wall rain, bringing severe flooding in Patong, also some flooding on the 12 October. Temperatures were much higher during the second half of the month, averaging 31 C. The sea was very calm during the second half of the month. Would seem that the dry season has arrived early this year.

September 2004 was another surprisingly dry month (for a rainy season month), with many sunny days. The best of the weather was during the first half of the month. Quite a wet spell from 15 to 20 September, then another dry sunny period until 25, then more like rainy season weather from 25 to the end of the month. There were 15 days with some sort of rain. The worst days were 4, 15 – 19, 25 – 27, and 29 – 30 September. The rainy days had temperatures as low as 27 C, the sunny days about 30 C. The sea at the beach was mixed, many days quite rough, and a few days quite calm.

August 2004 had a lot less rain than we would expect, and there were at least 16 days with quite a lot of sun. I noted 9 days with some sort of rain but most of these days only had a few minutes of rain. The wettest days on 1, 15, 22 and 23 August 2004. Only the 23 August had rain for most of the day. The best of the sun on 5, 6, 8, 10-18, 27–29 and 31 August 2004. Very good weather for August. The sea at the beach was rough on most days.

July 2004 had less rain than we would usually expect.  There were 16 days with some sort of rain, but rain showers were very short (typically just 10 minutes) and the rain was light. Only 20, 21, 28 & 29 July had persistent rain for about 3 hours. Most days were quite cloudy and there was less strong sunshine than we would expect.  Best of the sun from 3 – 8, 13 – 15 & 24 July 2004. The sea at the beaches was mixed throughout the month. Many days with big waves, and a few days with light waves.

 June 2004 had many days with some sort of rain, not so much sun, and rough seas. The first 10 days had most of the rain; the middle of the month had the best of the weather.  12 days with some sort of rain, worst days were 4, 6, 7, 8 & 10 June. The other days with rain, 9, 13, 24, 25, 28, 29 & 30 June only had short rain showers for a few minutes. Average temperatures as expected 29 – 32 C. Rough at the beaches throughout the month.

 

May 2004 had surprising little rain. We began to wonder when the rainy season would arrive. It did arrive on 24 May, lasting 4 days with 25 & 26 May with rain all day.  We had 9 days with some sort of rain, most days having only a short rain shower (short = 20 minutes). Most days had quite a lot of sunshine, only 25 & 26 May had no sunshine. Average temperatures 30 – 32 C. Light winds most of the month, sea quite rough from 4 May onwards, some days with major surf at the beaches. 

 

April 2004 had mixed weather, with about 20 cloudy days. Although quite a lot of sunshine mixed in with the clouds. About 10 very sunny days with few clouds. 13 days with some sort of rain, but the rain was mostly limited to very light showers for just a few minutes. The wettest days were 7, 29 & 30 April with heavy rain showers lasting less than an hour. Hot month with most days 32 – 34 C. Seas at the beach very calm throughout the month.

 

March 2004 had the typical sort of weather we would have expected. Only 6 days with some sort of rain on 4, 8, 13, 18, 19 March, but rain showers were very short, lasting maybe only 30 minutes maximum. Most days had lots of sunshine, except the 4, 7, 8, 9, 12, 13, 19, 28, 31 March, which were mostly cloudy. The 13 & 19 March were the ‘worst’ days for rain & clouds. Daytime temperatures averaged about 31 – 32 C. Nighttime temperatures 29 C. Calm at the beach all through the month

 

February 2004 surprised us by having 5 days with some sort of rain. Usually we would expect almost no rain, but we had short rain showers on 3, 5, 6, 8, and 12 February. Almost every day had sunshine except for 4, 5, 6 February which were all dull & overcast most of these days. Typical warm month with temperatures from 30 – 33 C (day & night) and calm all month at the beach.

 

January 2004 was a typical dry season month with almost zero rain. Most days were sunny and hot. Only one short rain shower late afternoon 29 January (first rain for 35 days). There were two overcast periods from 11 – 13 January and from 29 – 30 January. The worst day of the month was the 13 January, which had quite a dull morning, but back to the usual mixed clouds and sun by afternoon.
