December 2003 was another typical ‘dry
season’ month. Most days had some sort of sunshine with the exception of 2
periods, 8 - 12 & 20 – 21 December where we had some grey days. Worst day
was 10 December with light rain throughout the day. Other days with some sort
of rain - 1, 3, 8, 9, 19, 20 & 27, usually only a light, short shower in
the early evening. Total of 8 days with rain recorded. The sea at the beach
remained very calm throughout the month. The second half of December had the
better (as in sunnier & hotter) weather.
November 2003 was a typical ‘dry
season’ month. Most days had some sort of sunshine & lots of blue sky. There were no days with persistent rain,
only short sharp rain showers about mid-day. There were 11 days with some sort
of rain scattered throughout the month on 1, 11, 12, 13, 17, 18, 21, 23, 25, 28
& 30 November. Very good weather month for the visitors.
October 2003 was a wet month, very
wet. Even more disappointing was the lack of sunny days and October 2003 was a
month we would rather forget about. Statistically speaking we had 25 days with
some sort of rain, the wettest days being 2, 5, 6, 16, 19 and 20 October when
we had rain almost all day. The best of the sunny days were 8, and from 23 - 28
October. Most days were calm to
medium rough at the beach, with only 5 – 7 October having quite rough seas at
the beach.
September 2003 was wetter than we
would expect, so that was not so good given that September is statistically the
wettest month of the year. What made the month even worse was the lack of sunny
days, as we would usually expect a good amount of sunshine. We had 17 days,
scattered through the month, with some sort of rain. The wettest days were 15,
21, 22 & 25 September, when we had rain most of the day. The best of the
sunshine was from 4 – 6 September, 17 & 18 September had some sunshine, and
27 – 30 September had some limited sunshine. Sea at the beach was mixed with
some very rough periods and some flat calm periods. September was a very bad weather month
for the tourists.
August 2003 was a typical rainy season
month, perhaps a little more rain than we would expect. We had 2 main rainy
periods from 2 – 4 August and 11 – 18 August, with a rainy day on 30 August.
The 3rd was the worst day with rain all day, sometimes very heavy.
The 14, 17, 18 & 30 August also had rain through most of the day. The best
of the sunny days were from 6 – 11 August and 19 – 29 August. There were no
calm days at the beach and the surf varied from medium to very rough throughout
the month.
July 2003 was a very wet month. Much
more rain than we would expect. 16 days with some sort of rain The worst days were 2, 5, 6, 11, 13, 19 & 28 July
when we had light rain for most of the day. The other rainy days were 1, 3, 7,
9, 12, 17, 20, 22 & 24 July when we had just a short shower lasting less
than 30 minutes. As you can see the rainy days were scattered throughout the
month. The best of the sunshine on 10, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 30 & 31
July. Notice that some rainy days also had a lot of sun. Sea at the beach was
mixed, some days very rough, other days very calm.
June 2003 was a typical rainy season
month with 9 days having some sort of rain and many cloudy days and few days
with sun all day. Most of the rain days had only a few minutes of light rain
(12, 16, 17, 24, 25, 26, 29 & 30 June). Only 22 June had persistent rain
throughout the day. For sure the
first half of the month had the best of the weather,
second half had many rainy days with a lot of dull, cloudy days. The sea at the
beach was mixed, some very rough days and some very calm days.
May 2003 was quite a wet & windy
month, not really the best month for sun & beach worshippers. The first
half of May had many days with some rain. The second half had few days with
rain but much more stormy, cloudy and windy. 13 days in May with some rain,
mostly just 20 minutes or so. Worst day was 12 May with persistent rain most of
the day. Mixed bag of sun & clouds, no real pattern. The last week of May
brought quite a big swell at the beaches with plenty of white water.
April 2003 had very few days with daytime rain. Only the 20 May had
50 minutes of rain about lunchtime. The evenings of 12–15 & 29/30 May had
very light rain. Quite a lot of
cloud on many days especially during the last week of May, heralding in the
start of the monsoon or rainy season. The sea at the Patong beach was
reasonably calm throughout the month
March 2003 had an unexpected number of
days with some rain, mostly during the last 7 days of the month. It rained on
11 days, mostly just short rain showers for a few minutes on 3, 15, 16, 28, 21,
27, 28, 29, 31 March. Longer rain periods on 25 & 26 March. Most days were
a mixture of sun & clouds. Plenty of bright sunny days during the first
half of the month becoming cloudier by the second half of the month. The sea
remained calm at the beach all month, not much wind. Not a very good so called
‘dry season’ month, as we don’t expect this sort of weather until mid – late
April.
February 2003 was a great month for
tourist weather and swimming at the beach. All days had lots of sunshine, very
hot afternoons and no rain worth talking about. A few afternoons had some light
clouds, a couple of days were windy and the sea remained very calm except for
the few windy days that produced a light swell.
January 2003 was a typical ‘dry’
month. It only rained for a few minutes on the evenings of 1, 17, 18, 20 Jan
and about 10 drops on evening of 31 Jan. Most mornings were bright and sunny
and most afternoons were blazing hot. A very few afternoons had some light
clouds. The sea at all the beaches was calm and good for swimming.
